Karen Wazen Gets Candid About Vitiligo In A New Instagram Post
In light of World Vitiligo Day, influencer Karen Wazen shared her personal story since she discovered she had vitiligo three years ago.
Vitiligo is a long-term condition where pale white patches develop on the skin, caused by a lack of melanin. It usually can affect any part of the skin but is most common on the face, neck, and hands.Â
In a post shared to her 6.3 million Instagram followers, the mom and entrepreneur said, “When I first found out, I knew very little about this skin condition, doctors gave me very little answers as well; Will it spread? Maybe… Where did it come from? We don’t know… Will my children have it? Maybe… Can it go? Possibly… Is there a treatment? It might work it might not…
I remember feeling very confused, looking at myself very closely in the mirror everyday to see if it was spreading…”

Wazen also added images to parts of her skin wherein her vitiligo was displayed, saying she now looks at herself and finds her vitiligo fascinating and beautiful.
“Accepting ourselves and bodies and differences is the biggest strength we can have, once we are in this state of mind nothing will affect the way we see ourselves,” she adds.
Karen thanked everyone who has used their platforms and voice to note the importance of self-acceptance as it has served as an inspiration for her to follow their journeys.
