The Comedic Maestro Of Dubai – Yash Bhardwaj On How To Master The Art Of ‘Crowd Work’

Avatar

Laughter is a universal language that knows no boundaries, and Yash Bhardwaj, a Dubai-based Indian comedian, has mastered the art of tickling funny bones. With his quick wit and relatable humour, Yash has become a prominent figure in the local comedy scene, leaving audiences in fits of laughter. In a candid interview, Yash shared his journey from the corporate world to the comedy stage, along with his insights into crafting jokes that resonate across cultures.

Arriving in Dubai in 2015, Yash found a city that he now fondly calls his second home. He expresses, “I feel very free here; it’s like Independence Day for Indians who live away from their family.” His unique perspective on celebrating Independence Day aligns with the essence of expat life.

Yash’s journey into comedy began in Abu Dhabi back in 2017 when he participated in a writing comedy workshop

The early days of performing were challenging, as comedy was relatively new. Yash recalls performing to audiences with poker faces, only to be praised afterward for delivering a great seminar. However, his persistence paid off, and his move to Dubai in 2020 expanded his horizons, providing more stage time and opportunities to refine his craft.

Reflecting on his comedy style, Yash shares that he draws inspiration from everyday life, especially cultural contrasts

He finds humor in comparing different cultural norms and experiences. For instance, he humorously contrasts the concept of intermittent fasting in Western cultures with the perception of scarcity in South Asian cultures. Yash’s comedy is not only relatable but also thought-provoking, encouraging audiences to embrace the humor in cultural differences.

Yash balances his passion for comedy with a corporate job, a decision he shares is echoed by many comedians who advise newcomers not to quit their day jobs. Dubai’s comedy scene has come a long way, offering opportunities for comedians like Yash to shine.
