As air traffic control strikes hit European cities this summer, travellers from the UAE are concerned about the impact on their plans. Fortunately, flights between the Emirates and most European destinations remain unaffected, allowing UAE residents to book their trips to and from these destinations with confidence.
Wizz Air, an Abu Dhabi-based low-cost carrier, has maintained its UK flight schedule for the year, assuring passengers of their commitment to on-time arrivals. The airline has invested £90 million (AED433.6 million) to enhance operational resilience, employing AI tools for disruption forecasting and flexible flight and crew rotations.
Other major UAE airlines, including Emirates and Etihad, are closely monitoring the situation, promising customers prompt announcements should any changes arise. Travel agents report that UAE residents are undeterred, with no rescheduling queries or concerns. Passengers are well-informed, avoiding strike-prone cities and selecting alternative routes within the same country.
EasyJet recently cancelled 1,700 flights at London’s Gatwick Airport due to air traffic controller strikes.
Nonetheless, UAE residents are being advised to adapt their itineraries, stay informed, and make smart choices when it comes to planning for their summer travel destinations. Gulf carriers benefit from increased demand as passengers seek alternative routes.
