A Dog Flew In The Cabin Of An Emirates Flight And Here’s How It Happened

Farah Makhlouf

There’s definitely something comforting about having your pet with you on the plane, rather than alone in cargo. It is a well-known fact that UAE airlines only allow certain animals in the cabins like falcons, whereas the rest have to be in cargo.

In 2021, Etihad Airways announced that pets are allowed to fly in the cabin with its owners for a specific fee. Recently, Lovin Dubai shared a couple of cute snaps of a dog named Lilly who was travelling from New York to Dubai in the luxury cabin of Business or First Class. People were confused because Emirates doesn’t normally allow dogs in the cabins… so what happened there?

Lovin Dubai reached out to Emirates and they clarified everyone’s queries

Emirates responded by saying “Certain services animals are allowed to travel in the cabin on some Emirates flights, subject to a number of conditions”

So it seems like there are many conditions that must be met in order for your pet to travel with you in the cabin. You can visit the “Special Assistance and Requests” FAQ on emirates.com if you need more info on that!

“Your guide dog or service dog can fly with you for free, and on certain routes, they can travel in the cabin. You need to tell us at least 48 hours before your flight so we can make the arrangements. You can find out more about flying with a guide dog further down this page,” The website states.

But long story short, Lilly is a specific kind of service animal and she was granted access in the cabin of this specific flight. While it would be nice for all pet owners to have their fur babies in the seat next to them, it’s not made possible quite yet on Emirates but we can only hope!
