The Official Fifa Comment On The Qatari Gulf Fall Out Isn’t Giving Anything Away

The announcement early Monday morning of four countries: Saudi Arabia, UAE, Bahrain and Egypt severing ties with Qatar left people in shock.

Emirates, Etihad and Fly Dubai have suspended flights to the country, Qatari residents have been given 14 days to leave the UAE and Qatari vessels trying to dock in UAE shipping ports have been blocked.

Questions rose over the Fifa World Cup which Qatar is due to host in 2022. According to Reuters, Fifa, the governing body of the sport has been in ‘regular contact’ with the committee in Qatar, but they did not comment directly on the matter at hand. 

“We have no further comments for the time being”

While FIFA is in ‘regular contact’ with the organising committee in Qatar, they had no comment on today’s events. Local football federations and organisations also declined to comment on the matter.
