Flooding

The skies opened on the dawn of 2022 and a year’s worth of rain fell in the early hours of New Year’s Day, and continue throughout the first few days of the new year.

While some people are celebrating the beginning of the new year, others are reporting 3 days without power and more rain is expected today. Residents in some communities are feeling the strain, as buildings are ill-prepared to cope with amount of rain that continues to fall.

One resident reported:”Happy nye everyone, water leakage AT HOME AND UNFORTUNATELY NO power as well”.

Residents are complaining of severe home leakages and maintenance teams are struggling to meet the demand of residents in need

“I have made a complaint SEVERE LEAKAGE inside my unit, due to FAULTY WATERPROOF ON THE ROOF, on the 1st of January at 6:24am”

One resident reports, their home has four leaks, but the community maintenance team is unable to fix the issue. 24 hours after they made a complaint, the team maintenance closed the complaint, but the issue had not been fixed.

Fast forward another day, a team visited the home but was again, unable to fix the problem. The complaint was closed, but no help was given and the villa still has four leaks. Bathrooms and windows are leaking- the resident who wishes to remain anonymous provided images to show the scale of the damage.

While maintenance teams struggle to answer the demand, they have issued some guidance residents can adhere to

Residents can aim to secure their homes themselves, by taking note of these measures.

The owners/residents need to make sure balcony drainage is not blocked and windows and doors are sealed properly by doing quarterly preventative maintenance through a service provider and to check the weather forecast to ensure they prepare for the rain or any other serious weather conditions. It is recommended to ensure that all windows and doors are closed securely during the rain and for additional protection you may put towels below the doors and windows to prevent water coming in. Any electrical items or plugs/cables that water could reach them on the floor should be removed from the floors or covered. Documents should be kept in a secure location.

We do also encourage all our residents to take other necessary precautions and safety measures during these weather conditions.

Furthermore, following the regulations announced by DEWA, here are some of the safety measures you can observe:

  1. Check exposed connections and secure them properly.
  2. Seal all spare conduits located at the building roof.
  3. Close all electrical cabinets.
  4. Replace any damaged meter windows.

Thank you for your understanding.
