What Has Happened Since The EK521 Emergency Landing This Afternoon

Earlier today, Dubai International Airport, one of the world’s busiest airports, was shut down due to an incident which occurred with an Emirates flight at around 12.45pm local time.

The operational incident occurred on flight EK521 which was coming from Trivandrum International Airport.

Since then there have been statements, images and tweets with updates on the incident.

Emirates released a media statement with the following information:

There were 282 passengers and 18 crew on board and there were no fatalities reported amongst them.

They also released the nationalities of passengers and crew on board:

226 from India, 24 from Greater London, UK, 11 from the UAE , 6 each from United States and Saudi Arabia, 5 from Turkey, 4 from Ireland, 2 each from Australia, Brazil, Germany, Malaysia and Thailand, 1 each from Croatia, Egypt, Lebanon, Philippines, South Africa, Switzerland, Tunisia, Bosnia and Herzegovina.

They are doing everything they can to help passengers re-book:

Emirates commercial passengers and Skywards members who have purchased tickets on or before 3rd August 2016 would have rebooking; re-issue; and cancellation charges waived. This could be done on its website.
