Expo 2020’s Opening Ceremony Was Absolutely Thrilling
Chilling is probably the only word that fits to describe Expo 2020’s opening ceremony. WOW!!
The national anthem made us all expats, locals, visitors, feel like Dubai really is our second home.
Live performances took center stage at Al Wasl Dome. Popular figures like Angélique Kidjo and Mohamed Abdo began singing in their native language and absolutely blew us away. Hussain Al Jassmi, Almas, and Maysaa Karaa were phenomenal, singing an English piece, This Is Our Time that gave the attendees goosebumps!
More than 190 flags were raised to kick start the parade create a very fitting opening ceremony for the mega event Expo 2020
Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan began the speeches by thanking the rulers for attending and making this dream possible
The flag of the UAE and Expo 2020 Dubai were then raised with a blaring symphony in the background. Truly an applaud-worthy moment. HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum then took the stage and announced the opening of Expo 2020.
Today the whole world meets on the land of the United Arab Emirates… Today we witness together a new start, we inaugurate, with God’s blessing, Expo 2020 Dubai, and God is the guardian of success.

The infamous Emirati singer Ahlam also dazzled on stage with the orchestra following her lead. Starting in Arabic and finishing off in English, the song dedicated to the city was beautiful. Concluding her song was a fantastic burst of fireworks!
The extraordinary pianist, Lang Lang, Ellie Goulding, and Andra Day did an incredible job with their performances at Expo 2020’s opening ceremony
The Chinese musician and pianist Lang Lang played with such passion and truly elevated the story being told. Talk about whimiscle, the dome also turned into a crystal wonderland.
As the applause indicated the ending of that wonderful performance, the dome transformed into the view beneath the ocean. We’re talking seaweed, clams, mermaids, just an under the sea extravaganza!
Stepping out of the water like a QUEEN is Ellie Goulding!! She sang her infamous hit song Anything Could Happen among the clouds. Spectacular doesn’t begin to describe her performance.
Andra Day absolutely took the event by storm with her incredible performance of her Grammy-winning song “Rise Up!”
Concluding the opening ceremony of Expo 2020 Dubai was none other than Andrea Bocelli singing “The Prayer”!! That was one amazing opening ceremony to say the least.
