You Can Now Convert Your Existing Driving License Without Lessons In Dubai

Let’s admit one thing about getting your license in Dubai journey, it’s hard! Maybe harder than the LSATs and MCATs and any other 4 letter abbreviation exam. You have to complete like 40 hours of driving classes and go through a few exams to get the license.

Oh but once you do, you are unstoppable, friend! It’s a great feeling. But if you happen to already have your driver’s license from your home country, you can actually get the Dubai one.

The ‘Golden Chance’ initiative will be your friend.

RTA announced the ‘Golden Chance’ initiative which will help you convert your existing driving license to the Dubai one… but there are a few conditions

Terms and conditions apply: Here’s what you need to know about converting your license and completing 0 hours of classes

  1. You must hold a valid license from your home country
  2. You have to take and pass the RTA driving exams (theory and road test) in one take!
  3. You must pay approximately AED2,200 (the price depends on the school) to cover the costs of opening a file, taking the tests, license insurance etc.

You can visit a driving centre of your choice and apply for the Golden Chance initiative. Just remember if you don’t pass the tests on the first try, you will have to enrol for regular classes.

But to be honest, the classes are beneficial for newer drivers because the rules differ per emirate and per country.
