Dubai’s RTA Has Plans To Link Bur Dubai To Dubai Islands Via A Bridge By 2026

Dubai’s Road and Transport Authority (RTA) has unveiled plans for a game-changing 1.4-kilometer bridge that will link Bur Dubai to Dubai Islands, set to open in 2026. With four lanes designed to handle 16,000 vehicles an hour in both directions, this project is a pivotal part of the Shindagha Corridor Improvement Project, promising to reshape the city’s connectivity.

Positioned strategically, this bridge offers direct entry and exit points on the Bur Dubai side, spanning the Dubai Creek from the Infinity Bridge to the Port Rashid Development Project. Rising 15.5 meters above the creek, the bridge features a 75-meter-wide canal for maritime traffic.

This project isn’t just about traffic; it prioritizes the community. A dedicated cycling and pedestrian path will grace one side, and an elevator will enhance mobility.

The monumental agreement for this project was recently signed by Mattar Al Tayer, RTA’s Director-General and Chairman, and Mohammed Al Shaibani, Chairman of Nakheel…

Mr. Al Tayer highlighted the project’s significance, stating, “This project forms a key phase of Al Shindagha Corridor Improvement Project, one of the largest projects currently being undertaken by RTA with a total estimated cost of Dh5.3 billion.”

By reducing travel time between various projects from 104 minutes to just 16 minutes by 2030, this bridge is poised to serve approximately one million people and save an estimated AED45 billion over two decades.

This bridge will transform urban mobility, enhance the city’s economic growth, and improve the lives of residents and visitors alike for generations to come.
