BANNED.

Following reports of multiple mishaps, injuries and even a tragic death as a result of jet skis, these self-propelled vehicles have been strictly prohibited inside Palm Jumeirah and Dubai Harbour areas.

Jet Skis shall not enter the area and violator will be strictly penalized.

Mentioned the circular released by Dubai Maritime City Authority (DMCA), on Sunday, August 2.

The notice further added that,

Owners, Agents, Charters, Marinas, Yacht club and Recreational Sailing Organizations shall ensure that the contents of this Circular are made known to the masters or persons in charge of their vessels.

Violators caught operating their jet skis inside the restricted zone will be fined AED500. A repeat of the violation will result in double the penalty, and a third offence will lead to fines of AED1,500 with the vehicle impounded for a month.

This announcement was the result of months of campaigning by concerned residents living in the area

Last year, in December 2020 it was reported that a British Dubai-based dad was killed in a jet ski accident close to Palm Jumeirah. The then incident had left another resident severely injured.

Dragracing, noise disturbance and jetting at high speeds close to the swimming zones and designated water sport areas – have effectively led to this firm response by authorities.

The ban will not only contribute to reducing noise pollution within the vicinity but will also add to the safety factor around shores lines.

This new regulation will mainly affect those who privately own skis because rental/private hire companies have been restricted in the area for a while now

Residents who privately own jet skis can look to ride near Dubai Marina or Jumeirah Beach Residences (JBR).
