El Seed Had ANOTHER Incredible Art Installation Downtown But It Was Only Open To The Public For One Day

el Seed is the Dubai based street artist who has transformed the face of cities with his inspiring work.

He shares messages of hope and peace using his own personal Arabic calligraphy and his work has spanned the globe from the streets of Cairo and Tunisia, to Paris, Qatar and Brazil.

el Seed was a guest artist at the Tashkeel studio, a UAE art facility which nurtures artists and the art movement here in the UAE. Now, his studio is based in Al Quoz (Warehouse 75 – check it out) and he’s been honoured with not one but TWO installations in central Downtown.

If you’ve been to Dubai Fountains or Dubai Opera you’ll have seen ‘declaration’ a permanent installation in the heart of the city

And now this: a temporart installation to house some of the world’s finest wool was created to look like gift wrap

The concept is based on a poem by Alfonso X, a Spanish King who provided for his people and created a legacy through the promotion of the humble wool.

The idea is based on a poem called ‘The Treasury’

“You, sire, are a great king, and I should be
Most glad to serve you, but in such a fee
Of gold and silver gems I take no sort of pride;
Deign, then, yourself to use them; I abide
Content in more abundant wealth; and may
Your treasures profit you in every way
That I can wish, your servant.”

It was open to the public for a full day on Saturday

It was a chance for visitors to view some of the world’s most exquisite wool

Loro Piana is the Italian brand who creates the wool – it collaborated with el Seed on the project.

Blink and you’ll miss it – the pop-up is not a permanent feature

How cool is it though

Here’s a BTS look at el Seed’s studio where he talks about his roots, his favourite piece (a huge mural across a neighbourhood in a garbage collector district in Cairo which can only be seen fully from one point) and how he makes his art relevant to a community
