Dubai Canal has been the talk of the town for months and people from all over have been looking forward to taking to the waters. But adrenaline junkies may have to stick to smooth sailing on the waterway following the announcement of the banned vessels. Jet skis, traditional wooden dhows, fishing boats and passenger vessels that are more than 35 meters long are not allowed on the canal and will receive a fine of up to AED 5,000 if they break the rules. The RTA considers jet skis to be unsafe in such a busy waterway which is only six meters deep and 120 meters wide.
Small passenger boats and tourist dhows are allowed on the canal, so you can still dine along the water – just as long as you’re not also transporting car parts! Oh, and don’t exceed a speed of seven knots or you’ll face a fine of AED 2,000.
